• The powerful ‘Leviathan’ 1.2MW Trenching System is truly innovative,being the only system designed for trenching among sandwaves and mega ripples. It was mobilised to its first project in 2020, working in fairly benign conditions in the Gulf of Mexico. Then, it went to work in the Formosa straight where it was tasked with tackling cable trenching over 19 degree slopes in high currents. The ability to accommodate the challenging topography mitigated the need for extensive and expensive pre-sweeping.

Improving Cable Reliability by Using Distributed Fibre Optic Sensing

Following a short introduction of Omnisens, the physics of Distributed Fibre Optic sensing (DFOS) is briefly reviewed to provide a common understanding of the technology. Distributed Temperature Sensing (DTS) and Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS) are discussed, together with their fundamental advantages and limitations. Then, the deployment and the application of DTS and DAS in working windfarm is presented, together with some typical applications like Real Time Thermal Rating and Depth of Burial computation, in view of demonstrating their impact on the asset reliability.
