The Potential of Biodiesel Feedstocks to Decarbonise Transport

Since there are less known petroleum reserves, renewable energy alternatives will be more alluring. The use of alternative fuels is the most practical means of supplying this expanding need. The greatest benefit of biodiesel over regular gasoline and petroleum diesel is that it is environmentally friendly.

It has always been the goal of the European waste-based biodiesel sector to revitalize low-quality wastes and leftovers that would otherwise degrade the environment. The sector has established regional networks of businesses that collect used cooking oil from various locations, including houses, restaurants, food manufacturing facilities, and public collection sites.

Through the effective process of transesterification, waste oils are collected and used to make biodiesel, which minimizes on-road and maritime GHG emissions.

The main factor in the decarbonization of the transportation sector on the road is sustainable biodiesel manufactured from crops, wastes, and leftovers. While significantly lowering GHG emissions, it also promotes our circular and bio economies, encourages domestic production of plant proteins for cattle, lowers imports of fossil fuel, and benefits rural economies.

Biodiesel is key to replacing fossil fuels in all transport modes.

  • It reduces greenhouse gas emissions.

  • It can be grown, produced and distributed locally.

  • Cleaner biofuel refineries.

  • Positive economic impact.

  • Better fuel economy.

  • Reduced foreign oil dependence.

At the Advanced Biofuels Forum, Xavier Noyon will be speaking on: • How advanced and waste-based biodiesel can contribute to the EU Fit For 55 targets, • The complementary between biodiesel crops and lipids wastes & residues, • How to recognize the role of sustainable biodiesel in heavy-duty road transport and other hard-to-decarbonise transport modes. Xavier is a Secretary General, at European Biodiesel Board and he’d be joined by other experts and stakeholders in discussions that could shape the future of the advanced biofuels market.
