About the event

The global data centre industry is entering one of the most significant periods of expansion in its history. The rapid adoption of artificial intelligence (AI), generative AI, cloud computing, high-performance computing (HPC), edge computing, 5G/6G connectivity and digital services is creating unprecedented demand for high-capacity, resilient and energy-efficient digital infrastructure.

In Europe, the market is expanding rapidly, but the nature of development is changing. The ability to secure power, land, grid connectivity, planning approval, construction capacity and suitable cooling infrastructure is increasingly determining where new data centres can actually be built.

CBRE expects the European data centre market to reach approximately 13 GW of capacity by the end of 2026, representing around 20% growth compared with 2025. At the same time, AI-related colocation capacity signings more than quadrupled during the first half of 2026.

The European Commission also expects EU data-centre installed capacity to increase from approximately 12 GW in 2025 to around 28 GW by 2030, highlighting the scale of infrastructure investment required.

The rapid expansion of cloud computing, AI, high-performance computing and digital services is driving unprecedented demand for data centre capacity. At the same time, data centre developers are facing increasing pressure to deliver facilities faster, more efficiently, more sustainably and at lower cost, while dealing with constraints around power, land, water, supply chains, construction capacity and regulatory approvals.

The challenge is no longer simply how to build a larger data centre. The industry must determine how to design and deliver resilient, scalable and energy-efficient infrastructure that can support rapidly changing workloads for decades to come.

As digital infrastructure expands, developers, operators, utilities, engineers, investors, and technology providers face growing challenges around energy availability, grid connectivity, sustainability, construction timelines, operational resilience, and regulatory compliance. Delivering next-generation data centres requires innovative design approaches, efficient cooling solutions, renewable energy integration, modular construction, and smarter infrastructure management.

The Data Centre Design, Construction & Infrastructure Summit 2027 brings together industry leaders responsible for designing, building, powering, and operating the next generation of data centres across Europe.

Over two days, the summit will feature expert presentations, technical case studies, panel discussions, and networking focused on accelerating innovation in data centre infrastructure, energy efficiency, sustainability, and digital resilience.
